First School on Atomistic Simulation of Biomolecules and Material Science in Tanzania from 3rd to 23rd September, 2018

The Africa Centre for Research, Agricultural advancement, Teaching Excellence and Sustainability (CREATES) in
partnership with the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), St John’s University of Tanzania and the
Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) will host the first School on Atomistic
Simulation of Biomolecules and Material Science in Tanzania.
Computational studies have brought success in the field of science and mathematics. Molecules can be studied at
molecular /atomistic level. Experimental supplemented with theoretical or computational study are more elaborative, as
some experiments are limited in some aspects especially when one investigates the molecular or atomistic level of
molecules. The purpose of this school/workshop is to initiate molecular simulation of biomolecules /material
(computational Chemistry/ Biology/ Physics and Mathematics ) science in Tanzania.

Topics to be covered includes:

  • Mathematical Methods
  • Numerical Methods (Introduction to Fortran)
  • Biophysics
  • Molecular Dynamics & Monte Carlo Simulation
  • Lapack & Gromacs Applications
  • Computer Aided Drug Design and Development
  • Computational Chemistry/Biology/Physics
  • Density Functional Theory (DFT)

Selected Lecturers

  • Dr. E. Fratini (Trieste, Italy)
  • Dr. J. Faye (Senegal)
  • Prof. A. A Hassanali (ICTP, Trieste, Italy)
  • Dr. F. Nkagi (University of Buea, Cameroon)
  • Dr. L. Kiruri (Kenyatta University, Kenya)
  • Dr. N. Serian (ICTP, Trieste, Italy)

Director

  • Daniel M Shadrack (NM-AIST & SJUT, Tanzania)

  • Dr. E. Fratini (Trieste, Italy)

We have limited funding for both national and international participants from East Africa. For international participants
we can only support either accommodation or transport cost. For local participants your encouraged to find other
sources to cover for your accommodation and travel cost, we can only support for your meals. If your interested in
attending this school please send your motivation letter to email: dmssjut@gmail.com with the subject Atomistic
School in Tanzania. Deadline for receiving application is 10th July 2018.
