Mobile Agriculture and Rural Development Applications for supporting Farming – As A-Business (FAAB)

The Africa Centre for Research, Agricultural Advancement, Teaching Excellence and Sustainability (CREATES) hosted at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST)  signed and MoU with the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania Catalytic Trust Fund (SAGCOT-CTF)  to establish the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICT’s) in Agriculture development in Tanzania. The MoU was signed in February 2018 with the aim of supporting a Mobile Agricultural and Rural Development application (m-ARD apps) for the purpose of supporting Farming-as-a-Business (FAAB) in Tanzania.

The Partnership provides the framework for the partners to act as a think tank for ARD solutions in the agriculture sector by providing valuable analysis, developing and institutionalize the software development framework(s) for mobile applications and solutions for agricultural value chains in Tanzania, build capacity of ICT service providers and agriculture sector stakeholders to consume research and assess opportunities resulting from the m-ARD app Framework, structure mobile application development framework to suit specific applications and to bring the applications or product to market.

The MoU will promote Tanzania grown software solutions and applications for adoption by agricultural stakeholders as well as promoting software solutions and electronic transaction for priority agricultural value chains.
