Project Name: Tilapia Fish Cage Farming – Kagera
Summary of the Project
NM-AIST in collaboration with Ministry of Livestock’s and Fisheries(MLF), Tanzania Agricultural Catalytic Trust (TACT) – formerly SAGCOT – CTF and Kagera Region Administrative Secretary(RAS – Kagera) establish a joint Project that focus on Research and promotion of Tilapia Cage fish farming in Lake Victoria. The project will also involve establishment of a new research and innovation Centre in Bukoba.
Approach : In this project NM-AIST through CREATES will spearhead the research Component and insuring proper commercialization of innovations and farming skills, TACT will focus on sustainable financing models while MLF and RAS Kagera will emphasize policies and extensions services delivery.
Project Objectives
- To provide solutions facing the fish farming sub-sector
- To produce quality fish feeds,
- To produce quality fingerlings
- To demonstrate smart farm management technologies.
This will further highlight opportunities for investment and gaps to address through research and other interventions.
